The Philharmonic plan to build a new concert hall. Do you know its location?

Please join us for a concert closing out the 2009/2010 season at the Wrocław Philharmonic. We will hear Mahler’s exquisite piece Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
Besides a few juvenile chamber and dramatic pieces, Gustav Mahler’s work is filled almost exclusively with two genres: song and symphony. In Mahler, they complement and interact with each other in a way which is absolutely unique in the entire music history. It was Mahler who created a new genre – orchestral song. The form had previously existed only in embryonic form; only the four cycles of Mahlerian orchestral songs – Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Travelling Journeyman), Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Youth's Magic Horn), Rückert-Lieder (5 songs to the words by Rückert), and Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children) – did give it the major artistic dimension.
This time the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Des Knaben Wunderhorn, whose lyrics were derived from the anthology of medieval German folk poems.
The solo part will be sung by an excellent artist Urszula Krygier, the prizewinner of the 43rd International Music Competition ARD in Munich. She was the first Polish singer to perform at the Milanese La Scala in 1995, when she featured a Frederic Chopin’s songs recital. The Mahler’s piece will be conducted by the artistic director of the Wrocław Philharmonic – Maestro Jacek Kaspszyk. Please come and join us for the season-closing concert!
